Sticking to organic - Feb 16th 2007

For the past couple of weeks now I have been running a little AdWords campaign for someone.
Nothing to big, a £30.00 a day budget, 200 keywords, 4 ads and PPC max of between 75p and a £1.00.
Everything has been running nicely, I've been trying to keep the ads running predominantly between 10:00 and 4:00, have been working on about a 3% CTR with an average CPC of about 70p. Most days I have managed to keep the ads running right up until 4:00 before using up the days budget and all was well.

Until that is, this morning!

I switched the pause of at about 9:15 this morning, tweeked a few settings, checked everything was displaying OK and then nipped in to town to do my banking, fetch my papers and have my usual Friday morning cooked breakfast.
I eventualy got back in about Mid-day, did a quick search, but saw none of our ads. I quickly logged in to find that all ads were inactive and that we were recommended to increase our Max CPC.

Nothing unusual about this until we look at the figures.
All the ads which were running nicely on anything from a 20p CPC to a £1.00 now suddenly had to be increased to a minimum of £5.00 PC. Obviously, I didn't do this and decided to just sit the day out and see what happens.

It's times like this when you are glad that you have enough pages high up in the serps and prefer to work on organic search.
