Linking to seperate sections on a page - Feb 17th 2007

I have just set someone a listing up in my directory and they wanted some extra links set up to individual sections all on the same page. See the links under their banner on this page for a clearer example of what I am talking about,
Dog Days Camberley

If I was advising them on SEO I would probably tell them to break the page up in to individual pages and set the links accordingly, but assuming they don't want to do this, it has got me thinking about how google would treat links pointing to different places on the same page? I will try to run some tests to discover more over the following weeks.

A quick follow up, after re-reading this it has reminded me thart I do a similar thing for some of my mobile phones pages.
Take this page as an example, LG Chocolate

Scroll down to the Pink version and you will see I have links set up like this; A quick look at the code will reveal links like this; These are all links to specific sections on other pages.

A quick look at the google cache of
http://www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk/Uksbdphones/lg-chocolate-vodafone.html
reveals all is fine.

But, a quick look at the google cache of,
http://www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk/Uksbdphones/lg-chocolate-vodafone.html#vodafonep
reveals nothing.

Can this cause problem, and does it mean links to specific sections of a page are worthless?
or are the links seen as just pointing to the top of the page?

More tests are being set up now.

Link to test page

The above link is set up to

No other links point to the test page.
