Our baskets are handmade to the highest standard using English willow. Mostly referred to as “wicker baskets” the word “wicker” is believed to be of Scandinavian origin, from “wika” meaning to bend and “vikker” meaning willow. We specialise in custom-made products and have received many unusual commissions which have been very challenging: baskets fitted into kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms have become very popular, willow bird cages and heart-shaped dove release baskets for weddings and funerals, Roman shields for battle re-enactment societies, baskets/props for television programmes, coffins and vintage car baskets. We also undertake repairs on old baskets. A company specialising in customised coffins requested a 7ft high "Wicker Man" for an exhibition in Germany. This was featured on Anglia Television. Our stock includes various baskets for pets and bicycles, a range of linen/laundry baskets, picnic hampers and bottle carriers, baskets for stairs, magazines, umbrellas and logs, traditional shopping and fishing baskets, dolls cradles with rockers, baby cribs, trays, fruit bowls and also hand twisted willows for display in the home. For the outdoors we have fishing baskets and creels, eel traps and duck nesters. For the garden lovers there are plant supports, wigwams and trugs. We give very interesting 1 hour long talk with a demonstration to organisations and groups around the Beds, Herts and Bucks areas demonstrating how a basket takes shape through the different the stages. At the same time talking about basket making history, tools, the varieties of willow and the growing cycle, colours and weaves and some techniques explained. There are some amusing and very interesting facts about willow and baskets. We take along a variety of our products; all are available for purchase after the demonstration. With willow in 5 different natural colours and baskets made in a combination of these they are exceptionally attractive. Our baskets are woven using the very best willow from Somerset; they are very strong and made to provide you with many years of faithful service.
