Other benefits include: Increased circulation which therefore increases recovery rates in musculoskeletal injuries, speeding up recovery rates while the horse is on box rest. Regular massages whilst on box rest will prevent atrophy, stiff joints and keep muscles supple. Decreased muscle strain and soreness after strenuous exercise. Improved joint flexibility so improving stride length, so the horse is able to make extended gaits springier and more exaggerated. Increases the elasticity of the muscle so preventing strains and injuries. Keeping your horse at his peak physical fitness is important to get the results you put in all the time and effort to gain. Regular massages will maintain muscular health and help prevent small problems becoming big ones. Prevention is better than cure! Highly strung horses and those who become nervous before or during competition will benefit from a massage to relax them and reduce stress. Horses who are massaged regularly trip/stumble less, are less likely to nip or kick at the sight of their saddle, become easier to mount (e.g. they won''t hollow their backs or try to rush off) and will find it easier to work in an outline.
