Seatax was started when it was realised that, since the introduction of the 1977 Finance Act, the tax position of British Merchant Seamen became somewhat more complicated. There is an increasing need for specialist tax services for seafarers. The nature of the tax laws, as they apply to Seafarers, meant that extra allowances are earned as a result of having to work outside the UK. It is now a fact that the majority of British seamen are paid gross remuneration, which places the responsibility firmly on the individual to liaise with the Inland Revenue to ensure their tax affairs are in good order.
