Kivoon is a free public transit app built specifically for the Isle of Man. It covers every Bus Vannin route, heritage railway, and 850+ stops across the island with live bus tracking, a multi-modal journey planner, and real-time departure boards. The problem: planning a bus journey on the Isle of Man means downloading PDF timetables from the Bus Vannin website, pinch-zooming on your phone to read tiny numbers, and guessing whether you are looking at the right column for the right day. There is no way to know if your bus is running late. There is no journey planner that connects buses with the Steam Railway, the Manx Electric Railway, and the Snaefell Mountain Railway. Kivoon fixes this. The app processes official Bus Vannin timetable data and converts it into a GTFS feed -- the same open data standard used by Google Maps and transit agencies worldwide. For real-time tracking, Kivoon pulls live vehicle positions so users get accurate arrival predictions rather than static schedule times. Kivoon was built by Itamar Bareket, a software engineer based on the Isle of Man, after years of dealing with PDF timetables and missed connections. The project was featured on 3FM Isle of Man in March 2026. The app is not a generic transit app adapted for the Isle of Man. It was designed from scratch for Manx public transport, with local knowledge built into every feature: knowing which routes share corridors through Douglas, which heritage railways run seasonally, and which bay at Lord Street serves which route.
