We are Independent Midwives. We provide continuity of care. We provide private midwifery care as we do not work in the NHS. Our fee comes directly from the booking woman. A midwife is a specialist in her own right who is trained to care for women and babies during pregnancy, childbirth and after the baby is born for up to 28 days. She is the only professional who is legally allowed to attend a birth other than a doctor who must have had training in obstetrics. We are experienced in homebirth, waterbirth and vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC). We support women and strive to ensure women are aware of all their rights and choices. Contrary to popular belief there is no obligation to see a doctor when you are pregnant. You have a right to choose where you give birth such as hospital birth centre or home. Independent midwives have many reasons for choosing to be self -employed. Most feel that this is the only way to truly provide woman-centred care. Why choose an independent midwife? As independent midwives we can offer you one to one care. Antenatal visits will be in the comfort of your own home, they are unhurried and as much emphasis is put upon developing a relationship over a cup of tea as is put upon doing blood pressure and testing urine. We can spend time researching your questions and easing your worries. When the time comes to have your baby, in the place of your choice, you can be sure we will not be leaving you half way through or on your own. After you have had your baby the support continues for four weeks with as many visits as required. Again the visits will be unhurried as this is often the time when support is crucial to the on going relationship between you, your baby and the rest of your family. This is an event that you will remember very clearly all of your life...ask your mother! Make sure it is special by knowing every choice that is available to you from beginning to new beginning.
