Sekou said, “I have always had a love and passion for music being, as I was, born into a family of Griots. My journey started at the age of 5 years when my father, who is a drummer and dancer himself, first introduced me to playing a djembe drum. From that moment on I was hooked and I have spent my life so far researching, teaching, performing and developing my passion for music.” Sekou continued stating that, “it is this passion that I wish to extend to students and audiences regardless of their level or previous experience of African drumming.” Sekou is teaching two regular classes: Tuesday evenings 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Wesley Church, St. John’s Street in Chester and on Saturdays 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Kelsall Methodist Church, Chapel Bank, Kelsall.
