The ?Allard? family have lived and worked at Walnut Tree Farm, Stowupland since 1927. Pre 1947 the farm was mainly arable crops and cows for milk. The milk being sold from a small cart around the villages of Stowupland and the Stonhams. In 1947 the milk round was sold and the cows were sold also.
Instead of milking cows Allard & Co then turned their hand to pig production. At that time all the pig feed was grown and milled on the farm. Today, Mr Allards, supreme quality pigs are still fed on home produced cereals. The cereals are still being milled on this farm to make an extremely wholesome ration for our pigs.
Every pig that leaves this farm has been outdoor reared. All pigs are kept to the very highest Welfare Standards. We are regularly inspected by our local vet to guarantee the Highest Welfare Standard, Freedom Food accredited.
In 1998, we as producers of superb quality pigs decided once again to sell quality pork direct to the public, going back to what we last did in 1947.
In 1999 we began to fatten ducks for Green Label Farms. These ducks are the Gressingham Duck, which are known for their meat quality and tenderness, (as recommended by Delia Smith). All the birds are fed top quality local feed and are on a straw base, free to move basis.
Also in 1999 we were fortunate enough to purchase The Ultimate Joint which was a cutting plant based at Rickinghall. Then in November 2002 we were finally able to convert a barn into our Farm Butchery. The farm butchery is situated on the farm serving the general public. Our products are at present available in Suffolk. Norfolk, Essex and Hertfordshire.
In January 2002 Richard Shave, a traditional butcher, joined Mr Allard?s to continue his established delivery service. He was first based in Old Newton and then Stowmarket. Richard has run a butcher?s delivery service for the past 20 years. Richard delivers to local villages and towns direct to the customer.
