Lauren Bowman Art Design Illustration

I am an Edinburgh based artist, illustrator and designer specialising in painting and drawing, graduation from Edinburgh College of art in June. I create contemporary miniature paintings populated by images that are entirely trivial, and attempt to endow the narratives they create with a sense of significance via obsessive and elaborate work. My narratives tend to stem from an original event or memory from my own life, which I then build extensive mythologies and plots around. Characters throughout my drawing and painting play out a false history, a farcical and insincere history that I attempt to validate via the use of traditional tapestry like formats and the mundane reality of accompanying textbooks. My work uses shapes and structures from conventional ornament, specifically those found in religious contexts, and integrates these into elements of pattern, deifying characters and referencing the metaphysical within a landscape of triviality.
