Workplace Pensions

The law on Pensions has recently changed. It is now a mandatory requirement that any business that has at least one employee, must have a workplace pension in place. Furthermore, they must Automatically Enrol every eligible member of staff; which is why it is referred to generally as Auto Enrolment. The business owner needs to understand who will need to be opted into the scheme they have set up and no member of staff can be excluded from taking part, otherwise it becomes an uncompliant scheme and there are initial and ongoing fines imposed by the Pensions Regulator. There are also minimum contributions that must be invested by both the employee and the employer. Overall there are more than three hundred pages of guidance on what needs to happen to fulfil all of the mandatory requirements set by the regulator. This is where I come in. My business helps the employer understand what needs to happen and when. I act as a guiding hand throughout the process and make sure I take the stress out of the situation for the employer. If the employer wishes to use my services, then from start to finish of the set up process, and then ongoing, I work alongside them to keep everything on track. I also engage with the staff members to make sure they are happy with their understanding of the new pension legislation (face to face) and make sure they receive all of the necessary communications (records of which must be evidenced and kept for six years; we do all of that). I offer a fee consultation in the first instance to discuss the employer's requirements and establish a plan of action.
