The Butterworth Gallery
Aboyne, Aberdeenshire
Butterworth Gallery is a family run business on Royal Deeside Scotland. We specialise in work by Howard and Mary Butterworth. Howard Butterworth is a renowned Scottish Artist and has lived and painted professionally in Northern Scotland since 1968. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother supported him over the years and his work can be found in her personal collection. Howard captures the atmospheric light and colours of Scotland in all moods and seasons as only an artist painting outdoors can. His description of his style of painting as "emotional realism" conveys the sense of being in a particular place at a particular moment in time and the experience and feeling of Nature''s constantly changing colours and light. Howard Butterworth His work has increased in popularity worldwide, particularly his paintings of Scotland including those of native birchwoods, Caledonian pine forests, heather covered moorland and snowcapped mountains with the lively waters and bridges of Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire. Equally popular are his oil paintings and watercolour paintings of historic castles, e.g Edinburgh Castle and Eilean Donan Castle, his coastal towns, e.g Portsoy, harbours and seascapes, e.g Skye, and city street scenes e.g Aberdeen. His work spans the whole of Scotland and many of his paintings are now published as prints, cards and giftware. Mary Louise Butterworth born in 1980 has been painting full time since 2004. Painting mostly in acrylic, her subjects are contemporary spaces for reflection and solace both within urban and countryside settings. Her unique night scenes often focus on an element of mystery or intrigue within the scene - setting the stage for the viewer to play out a story. In her work she attempts to recreate the hypnotic and dramatic qualities of light, pattern and form, emphasising elements rich in colour, depth and emotion. Mary’s innovative use of colour is instantly recognisable and very much in demand. We also have an online gallery as well at the premises at Ballogie. We welcome Trade and Corporate enquires along with selling directly to the public. Our range of prints, cards, calendars Jigsaws and gift vouchers make ideal gifts for any occassion. We also operate a gift account service suitable for weddings.
