Priory Holidays

hidden amidst the historical site of Syningthwaite Priory (or Sinningthwaite Priory) near Wetherby in North Yorkshire. The cottages are presently being developed within the grounds of a beautiful 12 Century Cistercian Priory, which is also being lovingly restored to a home for the Rawlings family, who own Priory Cottages and look forward to welcoming you to their unique holiday experience opening on 11th July 2009. We have 7 newly built cottages, which are architecturally in keeping with the Priory, which is believed to have been built around 1160. We have named the Cottages after the Prioresses who ruled the Priory until the dissolution of the monasteries around 1536 when it had 12 nuns in residence. The building and estate was then bequeathed to Robert Tempest by King Henry VIII and is now a working farm. Creating a new complex of cottages, courtyard gardens, preserving a barn and a Priory has been a challenge but a worthwhile one as we are sure that you will appreciate the peaceful ambience that exists amidst a fascinating mixture of ultra modern amenities, contemporary furnishings and historical artefacts and architecture. Priory Cottages are conveniently situated between the best experiences that Yorkshire can offer for a superb holiday break. Go west from the A1 and within 30 minutes you are heading into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, go east and the North York Moors National Park and York City beckons you. Whatever you require from your holiday, may it be walking, shopping, site-seeing or just relaxing and enjoying the fabulous scenery surrounding Priory Cottages we have plenty for you to see and do - we can safely say you will want to stay longer or return soon. All accommodation is professionally designed and each cottage is individually styled within a different theme. They are beautifully appointed to an extremely high standard with quality contemporary furnishings and close attention to detail. Each kitchen is fully equipped with every modern convenience, including electric and microwave ovens, ceramic hob, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and ironing facilities. Worktops are solid Italian granite, and floors are Travertine tiles. The bathrooms have contemporary luxury Italian bathroom fittings, tiling throughout and soft white towels. In the bedrooms we have top quality mattresses, white cotton bedding and luxury soft furnishings and each cottage has a TV in a bedroom . The lounges feature a 32" Plasma screen TV/DVD, Internet access and glazed French doors leading to a beautifully landscaped Courtyard Garden. You have a choice as to either walk or relax in the communal garden in full view of the historical Priory or enjoy the privacy of your own patio. Here, you can enjoy those summer evenings, sipping wine beneath the stars, listening to the country side beyond and soaking up the history that is Syningthwaite Priory.
