Spring Clean for UK Small Business Directory

I decided to switch my phone off, not check any emails and just give UK Small Business Directory a bit of a spring clean over the weekend.

I’ve this terrible habit of fiddling about with things, starting new ideas and not finishing them which often leads to the site getting more and more disjointed and looking more and more messy.

One problem is different pages, and different sections even, tend to use different stylesheets and I sometimes edit one stylesheet but not the others which can result in some pages/sections looking different to others.

To solve this problem I’ve created one new generic stylesheet and edited most pages so they now use the same one (I say most as there are bound to be a load of pages that still need updating).

Getting The Message Across about what UK Small Business Directory Provides

As with the stylesheets, the messages about what exactly the UK Small Business Directory provides has got a bit lost too.

I’ve now updated the Free Business Advertising page to explain a bit more clearly about what business owners get with a free listing in UK Small Business Directory and have also made it more clear that free listings are now invite only.

Upgraded Listings in UK Small Business Directory

I’ve added a new page explaining the benefits of Upgraded Listings in UK Small Business Directory with links to example of Bronze Listings, Silver Listings, Gold Listings

UK Small Business Directory Partner Program

Although I haven’t actually updated the UK Small Business Directory partners program yet I have added a page about How to Earn Money From Directory Submission which I hope to promote more soon.

I’m surprised more SEO and Marketing companies don’t use this, not only do their clients get a good directory listing the person joining the partner program can earn up to £25 for every listing they add.

Tidying up UK Small Business Directory Category Pages

The category pages were looking particularly bad.
I think I got half way through tidying these up before but then got distracted, the worst thing though is the Google Ads.

I used to only have a couple of small ads strategically placed so as not to ruin the look of the pages too much but after switching to Google Auto Ads I had less control of where the ads appeared resulting in the pages looking a right mess.

It really is a bit of a balancing act when using Google ads, you obviously want to make money from them but you don’t want them ruining your pages.

Reinstalling the Blog on UK Small Business Directory

For some reason I removed the blog section from UK Small Business Directory but at the weekend I decided to add it back, install a new theme and update a load of old posts.

It used to have a members section, I’m still undecided on whether to recreate that or not – time will tell.
